Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) utilize the heat of the air being exhausted from the building to pre-heat the fresh air coming into the building. These units are used during the colder months and help reduce costs by saving energy that would normally be used to heat up the cool outside air. Conversely in the summer months the cool air inside the building that is being exhausted pre-cools the hot outside air coming into the building and also acts as a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity entering the building.
